David Allen: GTD is More Than Just Lists [Getting Things Done]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: David Allen: GTD is More Than Just Lists [Getting Things Done]
Weblog Web Worker Daily sits down with Getting Things Done author and productivity evangelist David Allen to discuss his upcoming book and how GTD is more than just lists. To Allen, it’s about control:
If you walk into anywhere and want to get more control, all you really need to do is a version of collect. That is I need to sit down and just get everything that has my attention or the attention of everybody in the group I’m trying to get [in] control.

The new book, which Allen describes as “GTD on steroids,” provides a higher-level look at implementing GTD in your everyday life, which is what Allen focuses on in this interview. If you’ve given GTD a once-over but have had trouble seeing the forest for the trees (or the project for the lists, as it […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Oniblade Becomes Southpeak’s X-Blades [Game Announce]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Oniblade Becomes Southpeak’s X-Blades [Game Announce]
Today, SouthPeak Games has unveiled X-Blades, an anime-inspired action adventure game that features a cute blond heroine using guns, swords and magic to battle her way through hordes of demonic enemies, developed by TopWare Interactive. Looking through the screenshots, I realized I had seen the game before as Oniblade from Russian company Gaijin Entertainment, which we posted a trailer for back in November. Due out in late 2008 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, you can see more of the game either by waiting a week for the X-Blades website to launch or head over to the Oniblade website, already filled to the brim with screenshots and clips. Get Things Done by Closing a Few Doors [Productivity]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Get Things Done by Closing a Few Doors [Productivity]
Although choice is generally seen as a positive thing, the New York Times examines how and why closing a few doors can help you take major steps toward moving forward with projects and getting things done. The article begins with a look at a third century B.C. Chinese general named Xiang Yu, who burned his troops’ ships and destroyed much of their means of survival on arriving in enemy territory.
He explained this was to focus them on moving forward — a motivational speech that was not appreciated by many of the soldiers watching their retreat option go up in flames. But General Xiang Yu would be vindicated, both on the battlefield and in the annals of social science research.

According to researchers at MIT, “closing a door on an option is experienced as a loss, and people are willing to […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Heated Sleep Suit Uses Same Technology as Spacesuits, for Insomniacs, Not Astronauts [Holland]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Heated Sleep Suit Uses Same Technology as Spacesuits, for Insomniacs, Not Astronauts [Holland]
Dutch researchers have come up with a heated sleep suit that could help insomniacs and older people who suffer from disturbed sleeping patterns. A system of micropipes filled with water warms the patient, increasing their body temperature by just 0.4 degrees Celsius. At 35.4ºC, the body shifts from nocturnal wakefulness to a deeper sleep because, scientists believe, that skin temperature affects cells in the hypothalamus of the brain responsible for controlling sleep. As long as it doesn’t spring a leak, eh? [Wired]
