SkyWalker 12-Foot-Tall Bicycle Probably Requires Jedi Abilities [Not Star Wars]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: SkyWalker 12-Foot-Tall Bicycle Probably Requires Jedi Abilities [Not Star Wars]
In a clear effort to electrocute himself with powerlines or just cut his head with a traffic light, someone has created a 12-foot-tall bicycle from scratch. Called the SkyWalker TallBike, these bikes are not for the faint of heart. In fact, they are built for absolute lunatics. In other words, I want to ride one. Update: We talked with Brad Graham, the inventor, about how it was made and how it really works. Details and more picts after the jump. galleryPost(\\’skywalkerbike\\’, 3, \\’\\’);
According to Brad, the 12-foot SkyWalker is so strong that it can easily take a 500-pound pilot, a little trivia fact that makes me imagine a Fantasia hippo driving one. The bike has a built-in ladder that stops just bellow the seat, obviously to get you to the top while giving you enough space to pedal […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Scientists Build Optical Databus Capable of Tbps Transfers [Speed]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Scientists Build Optical Databus Capable of Tbps Transfers [Speed]
IBM’s new prototype 48-way optical databus takes up just 3 mm of width on a PCB, and is capable of a truly ridiculous data rate of around 8 Tbps. That’s roughly 5,000 high-definition video streams per second, even if better has been done on fiber. Even better, this “green optical link” is a hundred times more power efficient than conventional electronic connections, so the environment benefits too.
Who needs a databus with such a high data rate? For the time being, probably only petaflop supercomputer designers needing to route vast numbers of bits very quickly between parallel processors and memory banks. Before too long though, the size and weight savings offered by that lower power consumption could mean you’d see scaled-down versions of the technology in your laptop or even your phone.
The cleverest bit is that the guys at IBM […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Telepresence: The next best thing to being there

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Telepresence: The next best thing to being there Many companies have not yet joined the telepresence bandwagon yet, and many don’t really understand the difference between telepresence and videoconferencing. Indeed, telepresence is the logical outgrowth of videoconferencing — but it offers much more than just the ability to see the faces of those you’re talking to in a little window on your computer.

BattleStations: Midway Gets Sequel [BattleStations: Pacific]

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: BattleStations: Midway Gets Sequel [BattleStations: Pacific]
Last year’s Battlestations: Midway was a great idea! Letting you jump from ship to plane to submarine in a battle is every History Channel junkie’s dream. It’s just a shame the execution couldn’t quite match the idea. Oh well! It sold well enough, and had enough potential, that Eidos are taking another crack at it, announcing today the game’s sequel, Battlestations: Pacific. It’s largely the same deal, though interestingly it’s also letting you take control of the Japanese forces, with two single-player campaigns on offer, one for each side (the first game only had a US campaign). Virtually distasteful kamikaze, anyone? Eidos reassumes Battlestations [GameSpot]

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: WiMax Cellphones Phones From Sprint Later This Year [WiMax]
During the earnings call where Sprint got to chat about bleeding $29.5 billion this past quarter (thanks to the Nextel merger), CEO Dan Hesse confirmed that they’ll be releasing dual CDMA/WiMax handsets sometime this year—the first solid word they’d be packing WiMax in phones. Question: Do you care? [mocoNews]

Who loves Tetris?
I have been a big Tetris fan for a really long time. Ever since it came out, it has been a hit with individuals of all ages, and can we blame anyone? It is a simple, yet challenging game that provides wonderful hours of entertainment.
There have been so many variations and presentations of the Tetris game over its lifetime. Some video games have been released as spinoffs of the original, while there were many showings of the game in odd places.
The video below is a fun example of the […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Ack! Freaky giant doll alert. March 1st (tomorrow!) pre-orders start for this huge, freaky-assed life-sized Haruhi Suzumiya figurine in Japan. According to the maker, the five-foot statue has a moveable head, shoulders, elbows, lower back, knees, ankles, fingertips and, ahem, “groin.” This Haruhi has an expected sticker price of ¥380,000 (US$ 3,628.72). But can you really put a price on something so creepy? Yes, apparently!
