NFL Network remaining on Comcast, for the time being

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Industry, Cable, Sports

As you already know, the NFL Network’s contract with Comcast expires tonight, and while the two fight it out over where the channel belongs, on basic cable or a sports tier, it’s been threatening to leave the cable company’s lineup altogether. Not quite at the 11th hour however, comes word from the Comcast Voices blog that the two are still trying to work things our and due to currently “productive discussions” NFL Network will stay on Comcast systems for now. It’ll still be some time be some time before their court case has a ruling, but we’re sure your voice on the matter has already been heard.

Philips 56-inch Cinema 21:9 ultra widescreen LCD hands on

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Displays, Philips, LCD

We’ve had more than a few vantage points of the Cinema 21:9 ultra widescreen HDTV from Philips over the last few months but Tweakers.net finally got one loose from the world of concept photographs and trade show demos for some real seat time. Translation isn’t necessary to ogle at the Transformers Blu-ray playing with no bars, but looking beyond the pictures revealed appreciation for this LCD’s quick refresh rate and relatively low power requirements. Luckily, we won’t have to figure out how to get the 153cm x 26cm x 87cm box it ships in home, what with the lack of a U.S. release and all.
[Thanks, Wilbert]

Disney grabs a piece of Hulu

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Industry, Internet
Just as we’d heard, Disney has worked out a deal with Hulu that includes taking a piece of the streaming video site, joining NBC Universal, News Corporation and Providence Equity Partners as owners and bringing Disney TV shows and movies to the site. Expect Lost, Desperate Housewives, Greek, General Hospital and the like so show up after the deal closes, no word on any delay periods and the only content not mentioned in the deal appears to be ESPN related properties. Also sadly missing from the announcement? Any word of increased HD streaming on Hulu, lets hope they take a page from ABC.com and get right on that.

Audyssey DSX surround sound takes the speaker-count war to 11

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Other formats

You might think the future of surround audio lies in sophisticated DSP-driven single-box soundbars or even crazy wireless headphones, but Audyssey Labs knows the truth: what you really need is more speakers. Up to 12 of ‘em, to be exact, as part of the company’s new Dynamic Surround Expansion system. Like the 9.1 channel Dolby Pro Logic IIz, DSX focuses more on the audio in front of you, since that’s what your ears are tuned to differentiate the best — in addition to the left, right, and center channels, DSX includes two speakers mounted up high at a 45-degree angle, and two speakers placed farther out to each side to create width. Add in the two surround back channels from a traditional 7.1 rig and presto — you’re up to 11. Yep, that’s a lot of speakers, especially if your loved ones already think a standard 5.1 […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Samsung’s B-7000 LCD treating owners to trippy visuals? UPDATE: Samsung responds

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Reviews, Displays, Samsung, LCD

Samsung’s UN-B7000 LCD HDTV hits all the right style checkmarks, with edge-mounted LEDs handling the backlighting and the Touch of Color fascia. The review unit at FlatpanelsHD even managed to score pretty high marks in color accuracy, even illumination and black levels. Unfortunately, a nasty “trailing” effect showed up on the 46-inch model when viewing fast-moving objects and totally ruined the party. Credit the reviewer for trying different settings and upgrading the firmware to get rid of the problem, but to no avail. Chime in below and let us know if you’ve seen this same behavior, or if the reviewer just got a bad unit; unless your TV-viewing habits include a square of blotter paper, of course.
UPDATE: Samsung has told us that any of the “trailer” visuals are not an artifact of the set. A run through our own comments and various internet message boards […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb
