What Sold Me on iPhone

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: I’ll tell you the moment I fell in love with my iPhone, and it didn’t come until day three or four.
I needed to change the date of a doctor’s appointment I had coming up.  I had entered my doctor’s phone number in my address book on my laptop, so it had already synched up to my iPhone.  Great.  A couple of taps, and the phone call is made.
After I made the appointment, I realized I’d be going to my doctor’s office straight from work for the first time, and wondered what the quickest way to get there would be.
There’s an app for that: Google Maps.  I typed my doctor’s name and town into the search bar, and the first red pin on the map five seconds later was right.  I tapped on it, and it brought up a contact information screen with her name, address, and phone number.  I tapped […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

Public Enemies

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Though it provides no insight into its subject, Michael Mann’s John Dillinger biopic is still an engrossing period piece, thanks largely to the director’s sure hand and signature style.

Weren’t on the invited pre-order list for the Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player? Our tipster Mike gave us the heads up that those not on the initial list can now go ahead and lay down $499 to pre-order one of the universal players, expected to ship sometime between July 1 - 3. All you have to do is check out our hands on or the comments from some previous owners to see why this fast loading, SACD & DVD-Audio playing box is so highly regarded already.
[Thanks, Mike]

Top ten rationales for illegally downloading HDTV shows

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: Industry, Misc

We’re not saying we’ve ever downloaded anything off the internet that wasn’t 100% on the up and up, or that we’re here to judge those who have. We just thought it’d be fun to to post all the various rationales we’ve heard over the years by those who do to justify their potentially shady activities. Some of these sound like pretty good reasons to us, but we doubt any of them would hold up in court if the MPAA ever came a knocking. Regardless, if you do download gray area content you might want to have a couple of these ready, and by all means let us know which ones we missed.

I ran out of tuners on my DVR.
I accidentally deleted the show.
My DVR hard drive crashed.
I don’t get that channel in HD.
My cable was out.
I have satellite and it was pouring rain.
I don’t live in the […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

2009 British Open broadcast confirmed in standard def on TNT & ABC

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Filed under: ABC, TNT-HD, Sports
Bad news golf fans, HDSportsGuide has confirmed that yet again, this year’s British Open will be in standard definition on ABC and TNT. At least it will be in native widescreen and the event will be covered thoroughly, including shots from ABC’s Segway-mounted Steadicam and X-MO super slow motion camera, but we still can’t get over living in a world where the WNBA draft is in 720p and one of golf’s major championships and F1 racing aren’t.

Supreme Court Okays Cable DVR

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday that it decided not to hear a case challenging Cablevision’s new digital video recording (DVR) service that it intends to roll out. This decision could have enormous implications, as far reaching as the famous “Betamax Case” that allowed consumers to “time shift” their viewing of broadcast programming by recording shows on a VCR. In that landmark case, Universal City Studios brought the suit because it felt that its copyrighted material was being recorded without their permission.
This new lawsuit again pits the content providers against new technology. Instead of putting an expensive set top box in every subscriber’s home, Cablevision wants to create individual storage on their central servers. Subscribers choose what is recorded, and they can then play that back on demand when they want. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had decided that this new service was functionally the same as […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb
