Soft Pneumatic Exo-Skeleton Runs on Air, Electronics [Exoskeleton]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Soft Pneumatic Exo-Skeleton Runs on Air, Electronics [Exoskeleton]
Described as a soft and wearable muscle suit, this exo-skeleton is used for the lower body, where its pneumatic muscles help the wearer to lift heavier loads as well as walking. Made by a team from the University of Michigan, it’s powered by a small scuba-diving bottle worn on the back, and is triggered when the user flexes his muscles. It weighs in at just 6.5 pounds, including the five-pound tank, which you can replace with a C02 cartridge, which will drop the weight right down to two pounds. [cwwang.com via MAKE]

It’s Friday! Know what that means? It means it’s Friday! This weeks has been a rough one, but we’ve made it through in one piece. For that, we thank our Sponsors. Without them, we’d be eating mayonnaise sandwiches in a trailer. This week, Kotaku was kept going by Ace Combat 6, Coors Light, Netgear, Toshiba Gaming, Unscrew America and Vista. For this, we thank them.

Space Is Full of Crap [Trashtronauts]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Space Is Full of Crap [Trashtronauts]
The European Space Agency has just released images showing all the satellites and human-made debris now orbiting space as a result of 51 years of launching stuff since Sputnik. That’s about 6,000 satellites up there—of which only 800 remain operational—plus thousands of other objects from launches and accidents. According to their mindblowing simulations things are getting a lot worse:
About 50 percent of all trackable objects are due to in-orbit explosion events (about 200) or collision events (less than 10).

Yes, we knew that there was a lot of crap out there, but not to this extent. According to the ESA, this is really bad news and urgent measures are needed. Explosions in space are not disastrous on their own, but because of the aftermath. One example: a geostationary satellite travels at 6,213 miles per hour. If it explodes, all the debris stays near […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

New DS Coming To E3 2008? [Rumor]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: New DS Coming To E3 2008? [Rumor]
According to Bloomberg Japan, Enterbrain (Famitsu’s parent company) honcho Hirokazu Hamamura has said that Nintendo might unveil a new DS model at E3 2008. While Ash is asleep and our Google Translate only takes us so far, there doesn’t appear to be any other informationrmation of note other than Nintendo declining to comment on the rumor.
Since it took about two years for the DS to become the DS Lite, the timeline for the DS Lite to become the DS Liter seems right on track. What would you like to see in the updated handheld if Hamamura’s prediction comes to fruition? Nintendo DS possibility of a new version [Bloomberg via NeoGAF]

Ben Heck’s Latest Wonder Project: PS3 Laptop [Ben Heck]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: Ben Heck’s Latest Wonder Project: PS3 Laptop [Ben Heck]
It looks like the PS3 is finally getting some hot mod love from console modding’s reigning wizard, Ben Heck. We don’t really have all the details since he hasn’t announced the project yet, but the display looks like it’s the one he used for the Xbox 360 Elite laptop, for a true 720p picture. He’s obviously been leveling up his already formidable powers though, ’cause this is one of his most polished projects yet. There’s another shot from the side after the jump. Update: Turns out, we stumbled onto a special project for Engadget to auction off for charity! If you’d like to own this bad boy, more details are here, or at Ben’s site. [Ben Heck, Thanks Wallop]

Infogrames Setting Alone In The Dark Up For A Fall [Alone In The Dark]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: informationgrames Setting Alone In The Dark Up For A Fall [Alone In The Dark]
informationgrames boss David Gardner has told Reuters “we want to stop losing money”. No shit, Dave! As for how they’re going to do that, well…they’re hoping to sell a lot of videogames. Like the new Alone In The Dark.
Over the life of the product in this business year across platforms we are expecting between 2 and 3 million units.

I know, it’s launching on nearly every platform under the sun, but 2-3 million units? In this business year? It’s not that it looks bad, just…I have a little trouble believing that many people are excited for it. OK, I’m having a lot of trouble. informationgrames sees new game selling 2-3 mln units [Reuters]

New Puzzle Alarm Clock Tests Your Early AM IQ [Alarm Clocks]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: New Puzzle Alarm Clock Tests Your Early AM IQ [Alarm Clocks]
At the moment you wake up, how smart are you? If you’re like me, your answer is “not very.” Which is why I hate some jerk for teasing me with this IQ-test alarm clock. We’ve seen puzzle alarm clocks before, but none that try your cognitive skills in this manner when all you wanted to do was sleep in for another two hours. Then again, how smart can you possibly be if you take the time to insert yellow triangle, red star and green hexagon in their proper niches instead of simply hurling the base across the room until it goes “crack”? [Urban Trend] Thanks Gina!

New Pictures of XOS Exoskeleton Send Sci-Fi Shivers Down Our Spines [Exoskeleton]

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is one of my top posts ive read today! Read about it: New Pictures of XOS Exoskeleton Send Sci-Fi Shivers Down Our Spines [Exoskeleton]
Here are new pictures and diagrams of the awesome Sarcos-Raytheon’s XOS Exoskeleton, the full-body motion-assisting suit for “super soldier.” For the time being it may look as fat and ugly as Iron Monger, but remember Iron Man’s clunky beginnings. This may get to the point of being like the hot rod red and gold armor in a few years. galleryPost(\\’XOSskel\\’, 4, \\’\\’);
Sure, it doesn’t have rocket boots built in, but it’s still amazing. When wearing XOS you can lift a 200-pound weight and feel like it’s just 20 pounds, or throw a punch and have the suit’s metal fist follow through onto the target.
Basically the suit has an array of sensors that track the pilot’s movements, echoing them with its hydraulic muscles at the same speed. This takes some pretty fancy math so that […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb

There’s no getting around it. Working environments are one of the biggest factors that affect how productive we can be throughout the day. There’s a major difference between spending time in a tidy, aesthetic area or a bowling alley dumpster. It may have worked alright for Oscar the Grouch, but as his name implies, he wasn’t much fun to be around. And […] Hope you Enjoyed this HDTV informationrmation Blurb
